Melrose or Coldingham? Help me decide!

After a couple of years dithering we have decided to make a massive move. Our family of 6 are relocating from South East England to the Scottish Borders! We've spent the week looking around and we THINK we have narrowed it down to 2 quite different places-Melrose and Coldingham. Coldingham has the sea and Melrose seems to have everything EXCEPT for the sea! So are any of you wonderful mumsnetters from either of these lovely places? I feel so much pressure to get it right for the kids-I don't want to make this massive move and then find we want to move again when we get there.
Our children are aged 10, 5, 3 and 1.

What are you thinking re schooling? Both places are indeed lovely for different reasons. There are also places in between the two which could allow you to experience the best of both worlds; eg not too far to seaside, but also not too far from hills. Being closer to the A1 (Coldingham) would give you faster access to bigger cities such as Edinburgh / Newcastle which can also both be reached by train from Berwick. Although the Borders railway is near to Melrose at Tweedbank, you can only travel northwards. What kind of activities are your family into? Have you lived rurally before?

I really like the look of the Earlston high school. I guess Eyemouth would be the local choice for Coldingham? I'd be interested to hear views on both primary and secondary!
My Daughter is very into theatre-singing, dancing, drama. My boys are all rugby boys! We are churchgoers and do a lot of volunteering where we are now. We all love to be outside.
We live in a village where we are now but relatively close to big towns. We have family in Berwick so have visited often since childhood but obviously living it is very different to visiting it! Would love to know of any other places we may have missed.
