Looking for babysitter when on holiday

My family and I much like most families in the UK go on holidays frequently to other countries. What do parents do if they want to find a local babysitter and have a night out during their vacation? I know people say ask locals, hotel concierges, etc but we aren't really comfortable without background checks, etc. What do you all do if anyone does hire someone while their on holiday?

Use an agency?

I suppose it depends where your staying. If in a big complex they might have a babysitting service. If not I agree with pp. will have to be an agency.

To be honest I don't trust anyone enough so we go out as a family only - but my husband and I had been together about 14 years before we had kids so had plenty of 'us' time before kids so I guess it's less important to us than spending it with the kids - not judging you I think it's just why I feel that way

I don't.

No way would I have a complete stranger looking after my DS in a country I am unfamiliar with. A night out isn't worth it for me.
