No heat or electric HELP!

Woke up at 1:30am to the beeping of the baby monitor. The electric had gone out and there was a van outside. We have an electric outhouse thing next to our house. Before I could investigate DD woke up. She is ill at the moment and now I have no heat or power and DP is away on business. I have checked the fuse and the streetlights are out and I don't know who to contact to sort it. I have a very restless DD in with me to keep her warm but I need to her some heating on, who should I call?

Thanks

Your electricity company will have information on their website, either about any local problems directly or a number to call to check.

Do you have a gas supply or do you only have electricity?

Call 105.

Thanks, the van has just returned and they are doing something. I will get in touch with the company if it doesn't come back on... oh it just came back on. Thanks guys. I'll still give them a ring in the morning. I don't need this happening again poor DD and I are frozen!

Check out the prepping thread here on Mumsnet for equipment to keep at home in case of power cuts. We had a power cut just the other day, these things do happen. While it's usually not frequent or long, it's nice to know you can at least boil a cup of tea or an egg during a power cut. I have a kerosene heater in the closet, for really long power cuts of it's cold outside, but have thus far not needed to use it.
