Hello everyone,

Please could I have some advice on benefits? I am a little clueless and need someone to shed some light after not being able to get through to any citizens advice.

This is the situation.
I am currently pregnant, I work 30 hours per week and my partner does 20 hours. I am not entitled to SMP and my partner does not get enough hours (we have tried to get him more) to cover the rent, house bills etc on his own. Therefore we will have to apply for a few benefits etc, also when the baby is born I understand I will get help for the baby as well.
I am wondering when I should apply for help? And what would we be entitled to? I don't know how long the process will take. The same as when I leave my job for the baby, as I don't want to not to be able to afford the rent.

Many thanks in advance all advice would be much appreciated.

Its the first time we have both ever had to apply for help so all help would be appreciated. Many thanks Smile

You could apply for maternity allowance if you aren't eligible for SMP

Apply for it all now, and then you can change your circumstances when you have a baby/are earning less.

You can apply for maternity allowance rather than SMP.

Could your p get a second job or use the time to train for a better one?
