Is there a less cheesy way of wording this and one that sounds less cold than "no gifts" ? TIA

Not sure, but you may well find people ignore it. We suggested a charity in lieu of gifts, and still got some 'interesting' presents....

We asked for no gifts and my parents had so many of their friends saying they wanted to get us something and what could they get that we had to set up a list anyway. Which is lovely and generous but not what we wanted. People seem to feel bad not bringing gifts for weddings, parties etc

Quite honestly I don't think I would turn up empty-handed but I just really want to make people know that we're not expecting anything from anyone. Just find that phrase a little cheesy
