Birthday party non responses to invite

Dds third birthday this weekend, we’ve hired local hall and entertainer, sent out invites but not had responses from quite a lot, how many shall I assume will just turn up? Half of those not responded? Need to make sure enough food, party bags etc! They are mostly nursery friends that I don’t have contact details for to chase, just sent invites via nursery.

I've always worked on the assumption that no response means they can't make it. I find it quite rude, how hard is it to say "thanks but we're busy that weekend!" But none the less in my experience no reply=no attendance.

Yes, it is rude but you should take a few extra of everything that isn’t going to put you out. Difficult when it comes to party bags if you are doing them, though.
