School blazers

Do you put them in the washing machine or get them dry cleaned? I'm considering how much cheaper it would be to wash them in my machine!

I put dd1s in the washing machine, and hang it on a hanger to dry.

kimlo · 21/10/2017 11:04

and wash it at 30.

I have a 15 minute cold option on my washer. The blazer gets washed in that with a couple of towels and left to drip dry.

I put mine in a 15 min quick wash with cheap liquid so it doesn't go grey then hang it on a hanger

DD1 - dry cleaner
DD2 - washing machine Grin

SuburbanRhonda · 21/10/2017 11:13

What does it say on the care label?

AuntieStella · 21/10/2017 11:16

My DC go to schools where the blazers are washable and, although I was a bit trepidatious the first time sticking a jacket in the machine, they've always been fine.

So if the label says it's Ok for machine wash, I'd believe it.

If it’s a standard polyester blazer a cool wash in the machine won’t do it any harm. But if it’s got any wool content be careful.

Ds2’s summer blazer goes in the machine once a month (he cycles to school and gets sweaty as it’s over 6 miles each way) but hI s winter one goes to the dry cleaner twice over the winter.

Dd goes to the local school that has a machine washable blazer so again I wash that once a month. The only thing is they do lose the crisp structure after washing and aren’t quite as stiff as before.

Ours are washing machine friendly so get stuck in there every half term

HunterCatsSlave · 21/10/2017 11:29

My DC's go to two different schools, I chuck both blazers in the machine every weekend. One child is a sweaty betty, the other still cannot eat without ending up looking like a weaning baby! Both blazers still look fine after over a year of washing every week. I dread to think how they would smell if not washed! By the end of the week I can smell that they are dirty on my two. (Shower regularly etc, just active hormonal teens)
