No. This doesn't happen. Most dance exams are marked over several criteria sections such as technique, musicality, response and knowledge of syllabus as well as performance and presentation. Yes it is entirely possible for a student to receive a lower exam mark for not smiling, as dance is a performance art and this should be expressed through both the body and the face, but if they know their exam syllabus work well, perform confidently (albeit in a serious manner), and with a reasonable amount of technical capability for the grade that they are taking, then they will not fail.
