Small claims court... lowest amount you'd claim for

I have paid for a service and the man has 'done a runner' and won't respond to calls or e-mails. His FB page has been closed down. (Wasn't a FB transaction).

The amount is £70. It is not a small amount for me right now. But of course it costs £25 to start the claims procedure. I don't want him to get away with it as it's immoral too.

What's the smallest amount you'd claim for? WWYD?

I would for £70 in these circs provided

You can prove you paid and the facts of the case

You have to think that it will be enforceable ie that he will be good for the money too

You will get your claim fee back anyway

Make sure you follow letter before claim etc beforehand he might pay up and save you the hassle of bringing a case

Have you checked if your house insurance will take up the claim for you? I once started a small claim, then realised the house insurance covered it, and they took it from there. But yes, I would take him on for £70.

I once filed for the amount plus the cost of filing the claim. I'm in Scotland.
