Kettle has gone to the kitchen in the sky

I've got the house to myself for the first time in forever. I am desperate for a cup of tea. I just turned the kettle on and nothing. Nada. Zilch. It's Sunday and the shops are shut. WWUD? I can't face boiling a pan and scooping it out.

What's difficult about boiling a small pan of water and pouring it into a mug? Confused

Go to a cafe or a supermarket garage with a tea/coffee machine?

Go without?

BBQDip · 17/09/2017 17:03

Could just be the fuse in the plug, have you tried changing it?

Amber0685 · 17/09/2017 17:05

Microwave a cup of water, very common in Europe

BikeRunSki · 17/09/2017 17:06

Fuse?

Where in the world are you? I could buy a kettle on a Sunday if I was desperate.

Get a cheap spare kettle too.!

I can't face boiling a pan and scooping it out.

Why would you have to scoop it out? Just pour into a mug.

gaspingforacuppa · 17/09/2017 17:20

Coffee you can guarantee I would pour it all over the side. Takes ages on the hob too, live in outskirts of london but no shops open that would sell a kettle open after 4pm

The fuse hasn't tripped and it's a sealed plug so I can't change the fuse. I guess I will just have to cut out caffeine until payday

Boil the water in a same sauce pan. Open lid of kettle and pour in the boiling water. Them pour from kettle into mug.

happymumof4crazykids · 17/09/2017 17:37

Have you checked the plug is turned on? I did this once(never switch the plug off at the mains and didn't think to check!) went and got a new kettle and only then did I notice Blush
My sister had a similar experience turned out there was something wrong with her socket not the kettle!

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2017 17:46

Microwave or just boil a cupful in a small pan - can you really not tip it from that into a cup (or into a jug first). ?

Though in truth (and completely unhelpful to the OP) I'd just get the spare kettle out of the topcupboard. Its an old fashioned non jug type which dates from when DH and I first moved in together and we each had a kettle ..... over 30 years ago.

Be very careful with boiling water in the microwave. There was a case of a mug of water exploding in a teen's face when he took the mug out of the microwave.

New kettle purchased. Tea-a-go-go
