Need to send a not picked message

Ok I'll keep this short.
I run the admin this season for youth football team.
How do I phrase a message to say sorry but you've not been picked for the match this weekend without sounding too harsh!
Because we're a small team it's only going to be one or two people each week.

Have you warned them that it will be a rota to see who is missed out each week?

Is the same message going to everyone with team selection?

Or are the ppl not picked getting separate message?

Might be easiest to set a precedent-email everyone.

Dear All,
As you all know we have too large a squad for everyone to start every match.
(assuming they will all get a go you can say that now-also is there a chance they will be used as subs so should turn up? or do they not attend at all?)

DDs team asked for availability, kept a note of who had had to miss a week due to numbers and they tended only to be dropped one match for the entire season.
