Is there an age when wearing a bikini is unacceptable?

I'm going on holiday with my daughter somewhere hot and sunny, I've packed 3 swimsuits and several bikinis. Up until very recently I had a nice trim figure, but damn you menopause, I now have a decidedly round belly.i still go in at the waist at the sides but look definitely barrel shaped from the front.
Will anyone pay any notice to me if I wear my now less than flattering bikinis? Or should I stick to one piece bathing suits? Up until today my attitude had been "someone will be bigger than me" and "someone will look worse than me" I really thought I could brave it out and kept telling myself I have no reason to not love my perfect body, but I'm losing faith now.
I don't want to embarrass my daughter, what would you do?

No.

Ageist assumptions are always wrong.

Garments look terrific on some people and not on others for a host of reasons. Age in itself isn't one of them

No

No! On the beach in France and Spain this year there were women of all shapes and ages and sizes wearing bikinis and nobody paid them a blind bit of attention. Wear what you want!

I think that there is nothing more aging than a one piece personally but wear what you feel comfortable in xxx

Hippychickster · 01/09/2017 16:32

I'm 52 and still wear a bikini!! I think I look OK and I'm sure you do too.

namechangingagainagain · 01/09/2017 16:32

I am in Spain at the moment.
There are all shapes ages and sizes in bikinis..... Take both and see how you feel.
On the way here after catching an unfortunate mirror angle i almost didn't bring a bikini .... I've had 4 children in 10 years and my stomach shows it. I'm glad i did though as if been wearing it lots and feel great.

there is no age where it is wrong and there is no body shape where it is wrong. It's whether or not you feel comfortable in a bikini

MumBod · 01/09/2017 16:39

Under 10 is probably a bit suspect.

After that, crack on.

Ummmmgogo · 01/09/2017 16:40

under 10 is not suspect! Have seen one year olds looking cute in their little bikinis lots of times!

TheNoseyProject · 01/09/2017 16:42

Nope nope nope! you'll be grand!

ponderingprobably · 01/09/2017 16:43

Wear what you like the best. Personally I've always preferred one pieces but I'm very fair skinned and burn so easily. But try both on & just see what you like for comfort and the way it looks.

Ttbb · 01/09/2017 16:47

No one looks good in a bikin so matter how for they are. TBH I don't think that's the point of them anyway. Just wear whatever is most comfortable.

arnoldbarnacles · 01/09/2017 16:47

See Alexandra Shulman's recent bikini selfie. She's in charge of what's allowed, after all.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 01/09/2017 17:03

I reckon 20 is probably pushing it for a bikini

So long as it's newer than that, I'm sure you'll look fine Wink

wtffgs · 01/09/2017 17:15

No - with knobs on!!!

Wear what you like and enjoy your holiday 🌴

FlamingoF · 01/09/2017 17:20

No.

outabout · 01/09/2017 17:25

Eh??
Someone bigger/smaller 'better' / 'worse', why do so many (principally women) think it is a competition? Those 'labels' are all in the eye of the beholder to whom you (shouldn't) give a damn.
If you're comfortable and daughter is happy, go with it.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 01/09/2017 18:13

There is no age at which you need to stop wearing bikinis, however there is a shelf life for bikinis - id say if your bikini is more than a decade old, it's probably not he most flattering

InvisibleKittenAttack · 01/09/2017 18:15

Ahh! Posted too soon!

If a bikini is more than 10 years old it's unlikely the style / shape is the most flattering for the body you have now. If you wouldn't go out and buy it now, then don't wear it. But replace with another Bikini, once pieces are aging!

AnyFucker · 01/09/2017 18:16

Nope

Antoniacaenis · 01/09/2017 18:16

Age is not relevant. My MIL still wears one - and she is mid 80s! I could never wear one even in my 20s...
