Hi everyone, I am very aware that there are much bigger problems in the world than this but it is bugging me to death so I thought I'd ask some advice. Two of my DCs attend a swimming club three times a week, my DS also coaches twice a week for his D of E and attends rookie lifeguard training at the weekend. He works really hard, and actually gives lots of encouragement and constructive criticism to the younger members of the squad, rather than just standing around looking pretty and flirting with lifeguards!!
I pay around £80 a month for the two of them and also a yearly membership (admin??)fee of around £30 each.
At the end of the last session a few children were given a letter and when he asked about it they were very cagey and said it was a " Young volunteer " Application form, and you had to be "selected". He has since seen on Social media that a couple of his friends have completed this form online and are now signed up for a course. Apparently the club is paying for them to do it. I have looked online and if you apply just as an individual it costs £395!!

I may be jumping to the wrong conclusion here but the fact that only the kids whose parents are on the committee ( or friends of them) got a letter makes me angry. The committee member who gave the letters out has 2 DCs in the club, both are doing it. To think that I might be paying for them to get a massive tick on their university application forms really p**s me off.

I have asked for someone from the club to call me back, so that I can ask them what the selection process is. Or I may just act totally naive and say "my son would love to do the course, when is it?"

Any advice please?
