DDs Overreaction to Sad Song

My DD is coming to the end of Y1 and has loved being part of her school choir this year and getting to sing with the 'big children'. The trouble is they've just started learning Keane's 'Somwhere Only We Know' which got some reason she's convinced is a very sad (not just vaguely melancholic) song and it brings her to floods of tears each time.

She's started skipping choir because she doesn't want to get upset by the song, but she's also really missing it and upset she won't be able to sing at the school fete.

WWYD? Should I play the song on repeat until she stops crying, help her come to terms with the fact she can't be in choir anymore or ..... something else? Suggestions very welcome.

Just tell her she has a choice to join in and sing without making a fuss or to miss choir. Let her have the control and stop worrying about it. Good for her to learn to deal with her emotions and build resilience. No real issue whichever way she wants to go as in grand scheme it's a non issue.

It is quite a sad song. It would have me blarting. I agree it's not the end of the world if she doesnt do it but it would be good for her to choose. If you push her then it will become a Big Thing.

That song makes me cry too!

Sorry that's not much help but dh and ds laugh at me about it!

What about printing out the lyrics and discussing them? Or finding a funny version on YouTube (if there is such a thing!)
