With £1500 out of the blue?

Just that really.

Can't go on holiday
Have no debts, except manageable mortgage
Have savings, waiting to spend them on an extension
Don't have expensive tastes really

Should I just shrug and add it to my savings for my long awaited lusted after extension? Or something else? WWYD?

Yes surely extension? I know not very sexy but £1.5k might help you get a higher finish on kitchen cupboards or whatever extension it is that you're lusting after!

If nothing immediate comes to mind you'd be best off saving it. It could come in very handy some day.

Replace my worn out yard boots which I'm eeking as much life out of as I can as they're £300 a pair (but they last years).

Then shove the rest in my savings account.

Savings it is then!

Perhaps I'll carve out some luxury item expenditure for the extension and in my mind I'll consider it paid for by this.

It doesn't feel right to spend it on the floor tiles or think that piece of steel was paid for by xx. But maybe if I buy an infrared sauna....Grin
