My neighbours cat is in my garden...........dead!

Just gone out to get the washing in before it goes dark and it's lying on the grass by the flower bed. It's dead! I hate it with a passion and now it's dead in my garden. Don't really get on with said neighbour as we've had issues with said cat pissing up my front door, shitting in flower beds and now it's dead. In my garden. I'm just about to put kids in bath. Husband not home till after 8. What do I do?

Lougle, I'm usually very good in a crisis but it's just I've hated this cat for so long and now it turns up dead in my garden. I feel sad it's their pet and they've lost it. But I just didn't know how to broach it. I am upset even if it didn't come across!

Do you get on with the neighbours apart from the cat issue?

ageingrunner · 23/03/2017 19:56

Just tell the neighbours their cat's dead in your garden. I don't get what there is to discuss? Confused

2017SoFarSoGood · 23/03/2017 19:58

I'm sure you are upset, even at the demise of your nemesis cat. I am sorry!

I have cried buckets for days after one of my cats has died. At work, in front of hundreds while meant to be giving a presentation. The cat is part of the family. However, it is not part of your family, and indeed has been a PITA to you and yours.

Don't, please, have your husband pick it up without asking first. Let them do that, if they choose. They can preserve their dignity whilst preserving that of their beloved pet.

God, there are some dicks on this thread.

Apart from Iggle-that was proper funny.

AmberNectarine · 23/03/2017 20:00

Please tell them ASAP, I was out of my mind looking for my cat when he was missing. Sadly I found him; he'd been hit by a car. But at least I had closure.

Gallavich · 23/03/2017 20:04

You don't understand why people have cats if they are going to let them out? Do you understand what cats are for? Unless a cat is very old or sick then they absolutely should go out. They are natural roamers and predators.

QuiteLikely5 · 23/03/2017 20:09

Op did your hubby return the cat?

Northernlurker · 23/03/2017 20:10

I think you've been very feeble about this op. It's not actually about you.

QuiteLikely5 · 23/03/2017 20:14

Maybe op meant if a cat is torturing the neighbours it should be kept indoors?

1horatio · 23/03/2017 20:15

YOu can also cat prove your garden, btw... I mean, the neighbour could keep the cat in his garden (or the OP could keep it out, I suppose)

How did ypur DH get on?

PuppyMonkey · 23/03/2017 20:38

Hope OP or her DH have done the decent thing.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 23/03/2017 20:46

DH and I came back from holiday one year to find a dead cat in our garden. There was nothing in our garden that should have caused its death.

We'd never seen it before and no idea who it belonged to.

It was in a terrible state of decay, so we had no real option apart to bury it in the garden (it could have been there for up to 2 weeks).

We put up a note in the local shop to try and let the owners know - but no-one ever came forward.

I'm by no means an animal lover but I did feel sad that someone's pet had died and they probably never found out what had happened to it. Sad

This thread has had me through every emotion possible Blush

dogdogday · 23/03/2017 21:17

Some of the things said in this thread are pretty vile tbh Hmm

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 23/03/2017 21:23

I saw a cat get hit by a car once. The poor thing was writhing about. I was desperately knocking on doors to find the owner. Eventually a nice lady gave me a box and a blanket but it died. I wrapped it up and took it to the vets in case anyone was ringing round looking for it. I wrote to the paper - pre Facebook days - and left my number and no one ever called. The vet was a bit Hmm as though he thought I'd hit it. I never did hear of anyone claiming the poor thing. I often wondered where it came from.

1horatio · 23/03/2017 21:27

MsAdorabelleDearhart

That sounds really nice of you. You made me slghtly teary eyed.

My aunt simply told me that the cat was better of when an other cat rolled over her/him. You're nicer than she is.
(This thread made me remember why I dislike some people in my family).

I'm a cat owner, I hope somebody would do the same if something happened to ours. (not run her over twice, bring her to the vet, I mean!)

Nightneverchanges · 23/03/2017 21:31

Are you in a Cambridgeshire village? My elderly and irritating cat is missing and I'm a bit concerned...

MsMims · 23/03/2017 21:46

How did it go OP?

Well done for being kind despite your misgivings about the cat itself. A family members cat was hit by a car and likely killed then disappeared. The people who were with him lied about what they'd done with his body and it was awful - no closure or chance to say goodbye. Whatever anyone's feelings about animals, there should be sympathy that a pet owner has lost something they have loved.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/03/2017 21:46

How did it go op?

PeanutButterLips · 23/03/2017 22:32

I once saw a cat in the road when I was collecting my son from school.
I walked up to it and could see it had died so I knocked on all the surrounding houses to see if it was their cat or who it belonged to and no one knew.
A nice lady gave me some carrier bags so I could pick it up and lay it next to the kerb as I was running late at this point and I didn't want cars running over this poor animal.
I made sure I walked a different way home so my son didn't have to see the cat but I could still see the road from afar and the cat and carrier bags were gone after 40 mins of placing it by the kerb.
I do hope it was the owner and they could bury their cat at home.
It wasn't a nice sight and I would be absolutely heartbroken if my cat was found in the same state, she's like my daughter to me.
I do hope the neighbours have thanked you for letting them know and have taken their cat home to be put to rest.

whoahokeycokey · 23/03/2017 22:44

Sorry, child started puking! Never rains and all that!

Right so, husband home 7.45 went to look at cat. Agreed it's neighbours as distinctive collar. Decides not to place in towel and box. Goes to neighbours at 8. They're not in. He knocks at 8.15 and 8.30 still not in. I've text other neighbours to casually enquirer does anyone know where they are and they're on holiday! I've no idea (nor does any of my other neighbours) whose feeding/looking after cat whilst away. Husband decides to put cat in towel and box in case fox fancies a feast. I've had enough of vomit so I've just returned after hour and half at emergency vet so they can scan and inform. I've explained that they are on holiday and it might be unpleasant to receive phone call. They agreed but said they would make decision about when to contact and how.

I'm back home, cold, hungry child seems to have stopped vomiting and I'm now crying. All this for a sodding cat I can't stand and no longer have too.

It's not just the cat there's history with neighbours hence my reluctance to just knock and explain. Thanks for advice, helpful or otherwise. But especially to the person who suggested rosemary and garlic!!!

OP posts:
lougle · 23/03/2017 23:06

Well done, at least you don't have to make that decision now. You can't hold on to a dead cat while they are on holiday, no matter how you feel about it.

I hope the vomiting is done with and stays contained!
