My neighbours cat is in my garden...........dead!

Just gone out to get the washing in before it goes dark and it's lying on the grass by the flower bed. It's dead! I hate it with a passion and now it's dead in my garden. Don't really get on with said neighbour as we've had issues with said cat pissing up my front door, shitting in flower beds and now it's dead. In my garden. I'm just about to put kids in bath. Husband not home till after 8. What do I do?

Poor cat and poor neighbours. Words fail me with regards to them being 'precious' about a pet that they loved and cared for.

LearningHowToFly · 23/03/2017 19:15

My cat turned up dead in our neighbour's garden. We'd been out for the day and when they saw we'd got home they came round and told us, I think they said something like 'we've found your cat is in our garden, I'm afraid it's not good'. DH went round to get her. It's not nice but speaking as a cat owner I'd like to know.

Brokenbiscuit · 23/03/2017 19:17

Have some compassion. It's their beloved pet.

mypropertea · 23/03/2017 19:17

You could hand it in at the vet. Tell them you found it on the road and don't know who's it is. They will scan for a chip and call the owners. That way the owners know and you can't be implicated.

ageingrunner · 23/03/2017 19:18

When this happened to me, my neighbour kindly told me where she was and that she was dead, and I went round to get her myself

mypropertea · 23/03/2017 19:18

I am assuming the issue is they will suspect fowl play

loobylou10 · 23/03/2017 19:18

You have to tell them, it would be terrible to ignore it. It's a much loved pet. Either take it round or go round and tell them. You didn't kill it so you have nothing to feel guilty about.

Mungobungo · 23/03/2017 19:22

Knock on and explain that you've found their cat in the garden and it's not good news and ask them if they'd like to collect it. Give your condolences no matter how insincere and let that be the end of it.

Doowappydoo · 23/03/2017 19:23

Go and tell them - they might be looking for it. Be kind - show a bit of empathy.

whoahokeycokey · 23/03/2017 19:24

Sorry I didn't mean they couldn't be loving about their pet and I know they'll be really upset but this cat has shit in my kids sand pit, flower beds and peed up my front door for several years. They're precious in the similar way of first child.

I've located old towel, box and shovel for husband! I've bathed kids and done stories so I feel it's only fair Hmm

Tell them. If yiu gently put it over the fence into their garden? Due to the vicinity? They'll suspect you.

Maybe it's even better to just tell them and let them retrieve it (when your DH is home, not earlier...)

You did nothing wrong. So don't behave like a guilty person...

SarahBernhardtFan · 23/03/2017 19:25

It's an animal, they don't have a fully fitted bathroom like humans do.
Rest assured that your precious dc will do far more damage to the ecosystem and environment in their lifetime than a cat Hmm

PuppyMonkey · 23/03/2017 19:26

Erm - what is the shovel for?

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/03/2017 19:26

They need to know. It's awful not knowing.

Serialweightwatcher · 23/03/2017 19:27

Why does he need a shovel? You're not going to bury it without telling them are you? They need to know or they'll just worry when it doesn't come home again Sad

1horatio · 23/03/2017 19:27

I've located old towel, box and shovel for husband

Whatever you do.... do not just bury it. That's really awful.

And if anybody sees you? If your DC ever hear you and DH talk about it and maybe tell a neighbour's kid? You're busted.

And everybody will believe you did indeed kill the cat.

lougle · 23/03/2017 19:28

I'd love to be your neighbour. Really. Imagine what you'd be like in a minor crisis, if this is what you're like when their beloved pet dies? Smile

gamerchick · 23/03/2017 19:30

You can't not tell them man, the not knowing will drive them nuts. Just go and knock and they'll come and get it.

whoahokeycokey · 23/03/2017 19:30

Oh god no not burying its to put it on the towel and then in the box. It's actually in a bit of a mess on closer inspection. Husband has rang to say he'll be home 7.30 to take it around to them.

spiderlight · 23/03/2017 19:31

I'm guessing the shovel is to pick it up with. Some people are squeamish about handling dead animals. I'd knock and let them go round and collect, so they can see exactly how and where the cat was found. This would save questions later, although it might be too dark to be any use now.

bluetongue · 23/03/2017 19:32

Do the right thing and go and tell them. I'm not exactly best friends with one of my next door neighbours but would never do this to them. You can be the better person here.

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 23/03/2017 19:33

I'm assuming the shovel is to pick the cat up with, so he doesn't have to touch it!

1horatio · 23/03/2017 19:35

whoa

Ooopsie. I wonder what this says about me, that this was my initial though.... Uh, yeah. Sorry....

Anyhow, I don't think he necessarily needs to pick it up. He could also just tell them and let them take the cat?

LorLorr2 · 23/03/2017 19:38

God, why do you have to take it round in a box? Confused A ring on their doorbell then bringing them round to show them would be better! Or give them the option, if they don't want to see the cat then you can bring it round discretely.

PuppyMonkey · 23/03/2017 19:38

Id leave it where it is and just go and tell them. Sounds like it might have been hit by a car and crawled to its favourite spot. Sad
