Going away with work for 5 nights

Hi all, first time posting on here. Bear with me as I'm not up to speed with all of the acronyms!

I have 4 dd's 15, 7, 8 and 2. My dp is only the biological father to the youngest. I work full time in a great job and on Sunday I am travelling away for 5 nights. Whilst I'm looking forward to meeting all my clients and no doubt will have a great time I'm so nervous about leaving everyone for a week.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? AIBU to go away for such a long time? My career has always been important to me and I have a very good job that pays well. Guess I just wondered what everyone's thoughts were!

Yanbu. Men who have to go away for work do it without a backward glance or a dollop of guilt from those around them.

Your dp is, presumably, ok with looking after the elder dcs? (And if he isnt then Id be questioning his worth)

A bit of empathy here , I have a 4 and 1 year old ds 's and have just changed to a new role that eventually in a few months will give me much more time with them and personally for me is a really good role but it does mean that I'm going to have to be away for 4 nights the first week and between 2 and 3 for a few weeks after

It's tough going but you know what if it's the right thing it won't hurt anyone , and they'll be fine I reckon we will miss them more

Sometimes getting to the right place takes a bit of sacrifice but they won't really remember or recognise that but they will certainly notice a happy fulfilled mum in the right role

You are not BU to go away op , it's not going away for a year you and they will be fine please try not to feel guilty

Go! Work hard, and come back you a family who are pleased to see you home, but haven't really missed you!
DH used to travel loads. Me usually once every 6 months. Noone batted an eyelid when he went away, but if I went away, que loads of questions regarding how he was going to cope. They got a pretty frosty "same as I do when he's away" response. Tho if it was more than a week, he used to sneak in a half day holiday, as apparently it was impossible to keep on top of everything....

I find the worst part of going away is worrying about it before I go - without fail everyone is always fine while I'm gone and actually once I've set off I'm a lot more relaxed and can focus on work

I find it helps me to have everything ready for the week before I go - everyone knows the plan, all the various gym bags and activity gear is ready to go. I'm sure they'd cope if I didn't but it makes me worry less knowing everything is sorted ....

Go OP and enjoy the rest - in my experience business travel is so much less stressful than parenting for a week lol

Thanks everyone! So reassuring. TBH l have a blast. My industry is lots of fun and there will be plenty of socialising. My DP has booked the week off to have the girls, he's normally out for work at 5am so it was the only way it could work. My 7yo is gutted I'm going for so long and keeps telling me how much she'll miss me.

But you're all right, no one would bat an eye lid if it was the man going! Tough being a working mummy but I know I could cope any other way!

I'm really glad you'll enjoy it as well ....honestly I'm somewhat excited to have a bath in peace and a full nights sleep

I'll miss my boys massively as you'll miss your dc but there's also no shame in enjoying some of it

Being a working mum is tough so give yourself a break
