So that kids can see there is still a good vibe and no bad feeling (Hmm) and to model generosity/thinking of others at Christmas.

It would be a token - something small like socks or a book/tie/gloves....

Last year when we had separated I helped the children chose something for my husband. Doing the same this year too. I didn't get anything for him from me though.

I got him a movie he can watch with DD, from us both.
I can see this happening for quite some time.

He is still the father of your child so I personally would get him a gift. Are you talking about a gift to him from your kids or a gift to him from you?
It doesn't have to be a PlayStation, but I think something would be nice. The split may not have been pleasant but I'm sure your going to have to at least be amicable in the future when dealing with child care issues?
