Whether to take period delaying pills

Hi, I'm shortly going on holiday and my period is likely to coincide. I'm a 50 year old woman, no obvious menopausal symptoms just yet, apart from my periods are getting less regular (last 3 periods have been 5 weeks apart, then 3, then 4). My holiday will be exactly 4 weeks since my last period, so I can't guarantee it will happen then, but it's quite likely. I've googled the subject and find out that I can take Norethisterone (or a Boots equivalent). But I've never taken it before and am worried about potentially having side affects, or taking it when perhaps I wouldn't have got my period anyway! However, my periods are heavy and not pleasant and my holiday is in the sun, so not ideal. Just interested to know what would you do, and particularly if anyone has any experience of taking it or any GPs/people with relevant medical expertise who might have an opinion? Any advice appreciated, thank you.

I do. I get it on prescription from GP.

I had it on prescription from my gp for the same reason as you are looking to. I had no symptoms and had a great holiday.

I have taken it a good few times with no side effects. Where I used to live abroad, you can buy it over the counter so I stock up when I visit!

I have heavy periods. Due on my wedding day. Took those tablets everything was fine. Took a little while to get back into sync though.

I've taken it with no side effects and so has my daughter, who was going on a school trip when her period was due. She didn't have any side effects either.

I took it for my wedding. Zero side effects, and I'm usually very sensitive to medication. You have nothing to lose by taking it.

I've taken it and it really screwed my cycle up and made my subsequent period extremely painful. The PMT was also very severe. I have three friends who have also taken it. Two with no ill effects and one with similar to me.
