Change carpet or keep it?

Sorry not that interesting of a thread. We are In the process of moving, our lounge has a carpet which Is completely dirty, and I managed to get paint on it. We can either recarpet it or change it to laminate. Or get it professionally cleaned, wait until children are potty trained etc, then change it (would save us some money for the time being). Not sure what to do.

Anyone gone through a similar situation? Or what would you do?

I can recommend Quik step laminate. It's been down for 15 years and still looks and has gone through 2 children
