Development delays 20 month old

Hi there my 22 month old is always sick antibiotics do nothing for him but steroids seem to improve him as his always wrecked tired.His speech also comes on a bit his crawling and still not walking.He crawls very fast and walks a bit with us holding his hand then bends his knees he cruises on the furniture.
Can asthma slow down development as his always wrecked and sick. I am not sure if it is asthma yet but he has constant chest infections any help would be great worried 😓 mum.He has limited words he doesn't really use words for you to get him something he points but not really at anything in particular.He understands when I ask him to kiss 😘 his toes the developmental checks showed slow gross motor skills but his sick again and I am so confused.

For example, lead can be in old layers of paint in houses built up to and including the 1970s.

There are many causes of developmental delay. It can be a sign of underlying conditions, it can be caused by long periods of illness (eg very lengthy stays in hospital)

How is he with eating? Does he get reflux? Drool a lot? Cough when eating? Struggle with certain textures?

When his chest is bad, what helps him - blue inhalers? Antibiotics?

Cruising at 22 months is late, but not hugely so - do you feel he is close to walking independently?

Has he seen a paediatrician or physio? As this would be the next step if the Health Visitor had concerns about development. When they did the development check did they assess where he was in other areas - speech, fine motor skills, socialising?

Hi wafflesnaffler and Hazeyjane thank you for his reply. He hasn't been in hospital his not been diagnosed with asthma but his constantly sick with chest infections and I've asked for a chest x-ray.His cruising around the furniture and can walk holding or hands but drops to his knees his only a very few words also and I can't get him to drink out of a beaker he will do it and turn it upside down so his still drinking cows milk from a bottle.He gets when I ask him things but he gets frustrated when I try and get him to walk and will drop to his knees and crawl away he can crawl up the stairs which is frightening but his only taken three steps a few months back and stopped. I will look into the lead issue but I don't think it's that as it would have probably shown in blood tests. His been to a developmental person and they say historic motor skills are not great
They will bring him back in two months. I just feel like I am not doing enough or maybe he was in his swing to long or what if there is something else. Thanks for your help 😘😘

You need to speak to your health visitor or GP. They can have him assessed properly. Xx good luck
