Attire for boys

What would be considered acceptable with regards to attire for my sons, aged 9 and 13. We will be attending my BIL's wedding in a few weeks. We live in KL where it is hot all year round and very casual. Buying suits to be worn just once seems wasteful but I will do it if necessary. Your thoughts please?

Smart shorts, shirt , waistcoat.

Do you know anyone else with children who's going you can ask?

It depends very much on the wedding- the 13 year old might well be of an age where he wants to look like the other men rather than the children.

They need at least formal shirts and trousers. Depending on the formality of the wedding, ties and waistcoats may be a good idea. It doesn't need to be expensive - at a recent wedding my 10 year old wore Asda trousers and a shirt and waistcoat very similar to the one on the link with a tie and pale blue converse. He was comfortable but looked very smart
