Notification for following someone?

If you've stayed friends with someone but unfollowed their posts would they get a notification if you click the button to start following them again?

If you're friends, no. That's just a setting for your own wall posts.

If you're not friends and you start following someone, they will be notified that they have followers and their public posts will show up in your feed. You won't see it if they restrict stuff to friends though.
