I have this problem with my sister in law. . She's constantly putting her child up for the "brightest and cleverest child" award she really grinds my gears she pays no attention to my 5 year old as she is jealous of the relationship that he had with his grandfather he is now deceased .. I feel sorry for him as he's always making an effort with her and she just shuns him off .. It's not just this we try and include her and her kids in things we do with the mother in law but she never does the same with us ! Help I'm losing my patience

in what way is she not making an effort with your child? is she ignoring your child or being unkind at family dos or is it other things? your post really is too vague to comment at the moment, however for a start I'ld say it's perfectly reasonable for your SIL to see her own mother without inviting all extended family.

is she literally entering the child in competitions
or implying that your child is less bright than hers
or what?
