What creature, bird I think, is making this din in my garden?

A loud, regular 2 note call, like 'wok WOK'. It sounds like a throaty goose , maybe like a cross between a crow and a goose , but the squawk is short and curtailed, not like a drawn out 'caw ', and it is getting around a bit, I keep hearing it from different directions , near and far.

I live in S London, there are lots of big trees out the back, and a big bramble patch.

Any ideas before it gets going again tonight?

A pheasant?

Is it happening once it's dark? I've heard owls making a similar noise (I think!) at dusk, early stages for darkness. Not traditional twit twoo but was definitely an owl.

ooh, I hope it is an owl.

I would be very surprised if a pheasant had found it's way into the neighbourhood, but I will keep an eye out.

I have only ever heard this after dark.
