A stranger called me a fatty!

Went to a Christmas market with a friend today and was already feeling really self conscious and down about my weight. I'm usually either in my work uniform or out with DD so I don't pay much attention to my looks or what others think but today in normal people clothes without DD and having a day where I wasn't being a mum, I felt so insecure. I'm a size 16 down from a 20 after recently losing 2 stone.

My friend lit up a cig as we were walking around a corner and a man and woman dressed in smart business type clothes were walking towards and the man sneered (in a posh accent) 'oh look a fatty and a smoker' and the woman replied 'yes, how disgusting' and carried on walking.
I didn't think about it at first then I realised what they had said and told my friend who hadn't heard them and she was furious and said she was surprised I didn't give them a piece of my mind.

It's not what he said that's upset me because I know I am fat and obviously people are going to think it of me but it's the fact he actually said it out loud for me to hear, just to be cruel. As if that's all I am, just a fatty and as if that's an acceptable for an adult to do.

Why are people so bothered with others weight and health? I don't care if someone is fat or skinny, it makes no odds to me so why are some people so obsessed with what other people look like? It makes me so angry Angry

Destinysdaughter - thank you Smile

Fairiesarereal - my thoughts exactly, just an odd and rude thing to do

paulapompom - thanks, I feel much better today and haven't let it get me down! Merry Christmas to you too Xmas Smile xx

Goodbetterbest - they were definitely cunts and thank you Smile

KoalaDownUnder - same here, I would rather be a fatty and pay someone a compliment and brighten their day than be a nasty twat who walks around judging people and making comments

KondosSecretJunkRoom - that's a brilliant way of looking at it, I think they must have something lacking in their lives to behave that way

NoahVale - what an arse! Clearly cut from the same cloth as the man and woman

Whoknewitcouldbeso - I judge people all the time but like you I'm a normal nice person and keep it to myself

HeadDreamer - I don't give a crap about health statistics to be honest. I am fat and never said I wasn't but that's not anyone else's business so there is no need for a stranger to comment on it. I find your comment very unhelpful Hmm

ohhelpohnoitsa - I bet he wouldn't have said it if I was a big bloke!

Whoknewitcouldbeso - agreed! I carry my weight around my arse and thighs and have a thin face and a small waist so am a 12/14 on top but wear a 16 as I like my clothes baggy but my bottom half is a 16

Tinseleverywhere - haha I wish I had all these responses as it happened, would have been ace Grin

To drop that many sizes is amazing! You should feel proud. Ignore the idiots on the street with the terrible manners don't waste a second worrying about their opinions

bigbuttons · 21/12/2015 14:47

They are nasty people, no doubt.
if you are unhappy about your weight though why don't you try and lose some after all the seasonal festivties?

Mince314 · 21/12/2015 14:53

Saying out loud so that he would be heard is so unnecessarily cruel. What an arsehole.

My own uncle told me recently that I'd put on weight and again, I knew that. But it was the fact that he thought it was acceptable to tell me that that made me mad more than upset.. I didn't tell him he'd shrunk, that he had age spots on his forehead, that his eyebrows were like hamsters, that his lower eye lids were literally falling away from his eyes to reveal bloodshot eyes. I kept quiet. If I'd said anything I would have been the biggest bitch.

ThatsNiceDear- no I definitely wouldn't do that! It did really bother me yesterday but today after reading all these comments I feel much better Smile. Thanks, I'm having a break this week and indulging seen as though it's Christmas but will be back on plan afterwards x

Efferlunt - thanks, I won't let the twat dishearten me Smile

bigbuttons - I am currently doing Slimming World and go to the gym after work and have already lost two stone and will hopefully carry on losing. Having a break this week though to enjoy Christmas though Wink

Mince314 - that's it, why do we need to be told that we are fat or have gained weight? As if we don't know it already! It's no one elses business but ours and people telling you isn't helpful and is very rude.
