kids antibiotics

Dd has antibiotics. She's 3. Supposed to give them every 6 hours, on an empty stomach. Gave at 10pm and 4am. She can't settle back to sleep and I'm in seriously bad shape now. I've had approx 6 hours sleep in the last 48 hours.

Contemplating giving at 10pm and then giving when she wakes naturally

So, your thinking:

  1. On waking
  2. Before lunch
  3. Before tea
  4. On your way to bed

Sounds reasonable to me. I wouldn't wait from now til 10pm to give the next dose, assuming your in the UK.

Hope she's better soon.

Thanks for reply, yes,

When she wakes,
Before lunch,
Before dinner
Then nighttime - which I would likely do before I go to bed so this would mean waking her.

Doctor was quite insistent that I do it regularly and not cram it all into her waking hours, but I don't see it being possible if she is going to wake up with tinge early morning dose.

I have never woken in the night to give antibiotics. I would spread them out during the day instead

I've always been told by GPs that it's not necessary to wake a child for ab's, just spread as wide as possible during waking hours!

Ok thanks.

Go was so insistent! She said that in adults we are up for closer to 16-18 hours so can spread it out during waking hours. But with kids they sleep for 12 hours and therefore giving the full 4 Doses during the 12 hours of waking is too close together.

I was just thinking that we have 9 more days of this and I don't think we will last!!

Thanks for opinions
