Ivory

I have inherited some Ivory. I am assuming it is legal as it is very old. I want rid of it. What would you do? Donate it to charity, find a way to despise of it (how? I looked and Google has nothing) or sell it?

I think you have to be able to prove how old it is to sell it.

If I couldn't sell it I would be tempted to just throw it away.

Only thing I can think of is contacting an auction house and asking advice as they have probably come across this situation before. I'd feel uncomfortable with it too.

Is it definitely ivory and not bone? Both look similar to the untrained eye - my mum inherited some ivory that was bone in the end.
I think an antiques shop would be your best bet, they might be able to date it for you. I imagine a charity shop won't have the expertise to be able to do that and legally sell it
