Nasty"best"friend

My DD is having trouble with her best friend. The girl is nasty to her and today bit her on the arm.
The trouble is my DD won't let me intervene in any way. I want to contact the mother to let her know what's going on but my DD says that this would make things worse for her. My DD is not good at standing up for herself, but she is sad. Her other friends were watching as the girl injured my DD but apparently just stood around laughing. I don't know what to do.

How old is your DD? If she's at school, you can go to the teacher, or even trigger bullying procedures. It will be tough if your DD doesn't want to co-operate, but TBH, that's really a sign of utter demoralisation, isn't it, so something has to be done.
