Only girls allowed to join the school band. This is wrong, surely?

But can you help me articulate why?
Most junior schools in the Scandinavian country i live in have a school brass band. This one is 50 or so years old. The band represents the school on the national day etc. Schools don't have any other teams (football/ swimming etc.) or groups that represent them.
If you are a boy, you can not join the band. Please give me the words to describe why this is wrong. It is so self evident to me that i can't explain it. And i want to fight about it but everyone thinks it is normal (pro- female i guess....)

It is wrong because it discriminates against boys. How utterly bizarre! In the UK brass bands are usually man heavy!

Thanks. Here every school (age 6-12) has a band.

How do I argue against their line that if a boy wants to join a band, they are welcome to join the mixed one in the school in the next town?

The parents laugh about it and quote that this girls only band is the oldest in Europe. And 50yrs ago it was all boys, girls asked to join and were told no. So the girls band was started, did well while the boys' got smaller.

So when the few remaimimg boys, many years later asked if they could join the girls band, they were told no. Aren't we so feminist and clever.

So todays 6 -12 year old boys are excluded. And the band represents the school, marches ahead of the school on the national day....

I know that if i were to bring it up, i would be told 'you are perfectly welcome to start a boys band'. But that is not the point! Help me make a strong argument ladies!!!

What are the discrimination laws in the country where you live?
