Moving to France

Hi all,

So I found out my wife is pregnant which is so unbelievably exciting! However... I'm a little worried about our current plans to move to France. We've been planning moving for quite a while and sold our house last week.

It's our plan to buy a caravan and pitch it up at my parents house in France (as it's only a little two bed gite and would be over crowded with us all in there).

Then on Friday my wife had an urge to buy a PT which we tested and there it was clear as day... A big fat positive! We tested again on Saturday morning and it was even stronger...

So I talked to her about the move and if she wanted to postpone it which she said the following:

She would rather live for a few months in a caravan, in a foreign country whilst I do up our house and the gites we plan to rent so that when baby does arrive I will be there 24/7 to be a part of our baby's life (and her pregnancy).

By postponing our emigration it will mean she will have to work in the dive of a call centre and I will have to continue working my long hours pre and post birth.

She basically said she want to move to France for the sake of our baby which I share. However I'm really worried that we will be really in at the deep end. I am trying my hardest to get to understand the French health system and at the end of the day we will have more than enough funds in the bank to pay for stuff but I just wonder if it's safer to stay in the UK until after the birth?

I could find a place to rent really close to my work so I can go home for lunch etc and hopefully cheap enough that she doesn't have to work but I know how much she wants France...

Has anyone else ever gone through this? Have you ever moved/emigrated when you were around 12 weeks?

I just want to get it right for her and the baby! Or am I just being a flustered first time dad?
