Toy ideas for a 5 month old.

Hi I'm looking for the best toys for a 5 month old.. She's very alert and I think is bored of stuffed animals.. Etc.. I read & sing ti her but think she needs more stimulation.. I've been looking at Vtech learn & crawl ball.. Is she too young? As not yet sitting unaided? Help please :)

My DS loves this toy and I bought them for a friend's baby who's also had a lot of fun with them.

At that age they don't really need toys. You can make your own things. Put some rice in a plastic bottle and let her roll and play with it, different textures from around the house, a flannel, plastic cup, something metal etc. Just take her around the house with you. So if you're puting clothes away let her play with some socks or pegs etc, or doing the washing up? Let her play with some saucepans, wooden spoon etc.

1. The ball thing - the best my kids ever had/played was simple rolling boll or "tumble" with holes in it and some kind of bell inside (simple, not the battery charged one).
2. My kids loved Vtech toys. The old ones they've seen at family center. I even wanted to by stuff like that but Vtech disconnected those toys. One of the thing they still did (different model but still) - musical train, you know, you press the button and it plays the tune. there are several buttons with some combination - song or tune (the younger one, already 8, occasionally plays with it even now :) ). Another variation - the bus with letters-sounds-alphabet-numbers. Ot's big enough for a child to sit and ride it, and so far ours didn't brake :). Anyway, it's a little bit early for you, but around 1y it will be just the toys.
3. There is fantastic book that might be interesting for you. It tells about child development from the point of view of the games they are ready to play. It's not a new one. Called "Your child in play" and there are books for babies, toddlers, preschool (don't remember the numbers but it like "Your child in play, 0-1 years old", then "...1 -2" or maybe 3 and 3-5. Well, not sure about ages because I read it all in 1 go. As much as I could do it having young very active baby. The author is Marilyn Segal
