Noisy neighbours

Hello,

How loud do your neighbours need to be before you call the police?

We recently moved houses and our next door neighbours argue constantly. They shout, curse, throw objects at each other and I think she has hit him a couple of times. I've lost count of how many times we haven been woken up at night and it has woken my 1 year old a couple of times during the day (her room is on the other side of the house and on a different floor to the room where they normally argue). I don't want to be a nosy neighbour but they have 3 small children who are hearing all of this constantly plus I don't want my dd picking up the kind of language they use.
Should I talk to them or call the police the next time they have a fight and let them deal with the issue?
Thanks in advance

I really feel for you, we were in your situation once and our horrendous neighbours made our life hell, I nearly had a breakdown. Not wanting to seem personal but is your house bought or rented? is theirs rented do you know? x

The police don't deal with noisy neighbours - the council do. However, they might have an interest in domestic violence.
