So the purpose of the poem is to guilt-trip parents who sleep train their babies? Really?

I sleep trained my babies (not CIO). I did it so that we would ALL have the benefit of solid sleep, so they could be confident on their own and so I wasn't a snapping zombie during the day. I also listened to them, cuddled them, held their tiny hands and LOVED them. I still do.

I'm not bothered about offending you because your poem has offended me.

And BTW I have no issue with co-sleeping, attachment parenting or whatever you are advocating - it's none of my business how other people parent their babies. I didn't do it myself but I certainly wouldn't write a bloody poem about it.

Blurggh! I have no regrets about leaving my two to cry for a few minutes until they went to sleep, not at the time and not now 15 years later either. When dd went through a horrible phase of crying except when she was being walked about and jiggled I can't say that I felt like a team with her (although dh was absolutely fabulous - why all 'mummy'?) and I was incredibly glad when she grew out of it.

I have friends who went down the AP route and it worked for them, but it's not for everyone and heaping up guilt on mother who may be feeling incredibly fragile is really unfair.

Sincere apologies to anyone to whom this has offended. It was meant to be something to help mothers smile when the long nights become difficult and draining, and to remember that our babies are only small for a very short time. I am new to mumsnet, and will certainly think twice before posting something that causes potential controversy. Apologies again.

I couldn't even leave the dogs to cry as puppies but that poem is utter tripe. If it takes a bit of controlled crying to get Mummy down off the ledge and back to feeling human again so be it.

I think that is one of the most coy, crude and manipulatively sentimental outpourings it's ever been my bad luck to read. Maybe you could write a companion poem where Mummy is wearing earplugs and reading a novel in the bath.

I cannot seem to delete the post, so again I apologise to all offended. I wrote it as almost a cathartic piece, and I am very aware I am no poet. This is my first evening to ever post to mumsnet, and I feel sorry to have caused such a bad impression, when I am in fact very supportive of all that is necessary for a healthy happy mum, dad and baby. My mistake. Lesson learned, apologies again to all affected.

I can see where you're coming from, and also I can see that you realise that MN can be a bit of a roller-coaster.

The poem just wasn't everyone's cup of tea Grin

MN is fab, but thinking twice is a very good idea Flowers

And you are right, they are small for a very, very short time Smile

Oh for goodness sake, so 'offensive' it has to be deleted?

FGS having a tiny baby to look after is fucking tough and we all deal/have dealt with it differently.

The poem didn't rock my boat either but lots of people would like it.
