Asked to product test for baby but not tested to European safety standards

So I've been asked to product test something that involves mealtimes with my baby. It's not anything to eat but basically involves keeping my baby and feeding area mess free. I received the product yesterday but it contained some product details which state it has not been tested to European Safety Standards yet and should not be used after the trial period.

I am now unsure if I should continue with the product test (2 week period) as it even states not to let the baby put it in it's mouth for a prolonged period! It's making me wonder just how safe it is.

Does anyone know if this is standard procedure for testing products?

I'm in two minds whether to email the company and return the item.

Need more info on what the product is, but based on the limited information I'd be reluctant

Is it tested to another standard, like USA? (I'm guessing it is something like a rubber stick-down placemat?)
