THE meeting place for those smitten with Benedict Cumberbatch. As one of the members put it: Hump, limp and bad wig - but we'd still hit it.

Pile on in, there's always room for one more!

I have that colouring book! Bought as my secret Santa this year Smile

Cumberlover76 · 19/01/2015 18:33

The Batch all over your body! Oh yes please!

In other news, we are going to need a new thread soon.

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 19/01/2015 21:20

I'll take the Batch all over my body, but not as ill-fitting Spandex.

Any ideas about the new thread title? Do we dare include the CumberSpawn and SH?

(And I'll admit that I went back to reading SoGo, but an awful lot of people over there have some pretty wild ideas. Can you imagine what it would have been like had Tumblr existed when Kennedy was shot?!)

I have a very rude comment in my head about the Batch and those leggings lol
I think the thread title should be just about himself -must put my thinking cap on

HRHsherlockssextoy · 20/01/2015 12:45

Some of the sogo stuff is funny, I take it all with a pinch of salt

Leave sh off the title but you can include the cumberbaby. What about cumber Oscar ish title thread?

There is a very funny video that goes with that last picture but my iPad doesn't seem to want to copy the link. It's on You Tube under BC tries new names.

Another vote for just Ben in the title. Maybe mention of the CumberOscar.

Cumberlover76 · 20/01/2015 16:44

New names?

ColinFirthsGirth · 20/01/2015 17:37

I thought that New name vide was quite funny. I also vote for just Benedict in the title.

Swex · 20/01/2015 21:22

Briefly delurking. Loved that video. I voted....

Watched The Imitation Game this evening. Fantastic film. He's so good in it. Its such a sad story. If you've not seen it its worth it.

SciFiFan · 25/01/2015 09:17

I'm hearing that Ben has pulled out of today's SAG awards where he's nominated twice (TIG and Sherlock) and was due to present.

Doesn't seem to be a clear reason why, just lots of speculation at the moment.

imjustahead · 25/01/2015 09:39

Cumberlover

so good I've seen it twiceSmile

Cumberlover76 · 25/01/2015 11:20

I would definitely watch it again.

SciFiFan · 25/01/2015 20:23

I now have my TIG DVD on pre-order should be through by 9th March so no too long to go Grin

krolletRodtHar · 25/01/2015 22:54

I can't believe that in this day and age friends with benefits would actually get married. That seems ludicrously old fashioned. Why would SHE go for that?! she has her own career and isn't broke, he'd have looked after his child. It would be more humiliating to play along with a charade just so that it wouldn't affect his chances of getting a fucking bafta. Sure you'd laugh in his face if he said that to you surely!?

I might be the only person on the thread that doesn't have a massive crush on him though. I think he's a bit of a barbara streisand, handsome and a bit ugly too. I think it'd be embarrassing to announce a pregnancy and engagement and have cameras pointing at you scrutinising your body language! I made the mistake of reading some of the comments on the daily mail website. some people are cracked. that sophie would need police protection reading some of the crazy comments.

krolletRodtHar · 26/01/2015 09:10

Can anybody explain the number of (what seems to me) nutters commenting on the daily mail website that BC is 'dead behind the eyes' and his body language doesn't suggest chemistry blah blah blah. What on earth is the story here? A lot of fans broken hearted their sleb-crush is engaged, or is there some open secret that I don't know!?

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? It can't just be crazy people can it. Some commenters are writing essays on the dm website.

imjustahead · 26/01/2015 09:32

his eyes have always looked odd and blank. people are just looking for things.

same amazing blank eyes as before.
i love him.

krolletRodtHar · 26/01/2015 10:19

Thanks, that's what I thought! Confused

I loved him in Sherlock, but I'm not sobbing over his engagement!

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 26/01/2015 11:00

I would venture a guess that most people on this thread have been following Benedict's career for at least two years. During that time, we have also seen plenty of photos and interviews where he becomes more of himself than what he projects on screen. And a lot of that bubbly goofiness seems to have disappeared since he announced their engagement (though it seems to be coming back in spurts), and well be attributed to his crazy work schedule.

Yes, you have a point that too many people are far too invested in his private life. It's not like we are his friends or relatives, we are fans - no more, no less. That said, I do think it's fair to say that we like him as a human being and want him to be happy. I think many of us have our own idea of what happiness is, and currently we are also viewing his engagement and impending fatherhood through our own lenses. A lot of the BCAS members are either married or in partnerships, some have children, and we probably knew our partners for a while before we made that jump (marriage, cohabitation, children). In this case, we are looking at it through a small lens. We only first heard about SH this past summer - and now he's engaged and going to be a father. If the lead-up to all this had been at least a year in coming, I don't think anyone would be upset. It could come out later that they have been on-again-off-again for years, just that they have been very discreet about it; we will probably never know. But yes, it really is none of our business what he does, with whom and when.

But you also asked why SH would marry Benedict. He is far more famous than she; if she wanted to get ahead with her career, being linked to a shooting star wouldn't be the worst way to do it. They will probably have professional help for the child after it's been born, so she can get back to her career quickly - making new contacts and networking while pregnant would be natural step. I personally don't believe they're doing the baby/wedding thing to improve his chances of winning an award; I don't think he is that superficial. My gut tells me he feels he is doing the gentlemanly thing after an accidental pregnancy. I don't think she's doing it solely for her career, but being linked that closely to Benedict isn't going to harm her either. IF they get married and IF they get divorced, I think she would be the one to come out ahead of where they started.

Sorry if the essay format offends, but you asked questions, so I figured I would answer.

OP posts:
krolletRodtHar · 26/01/2015 13:58

Thank you for your answer. You sound a lot saner than some of the commenters on the daily mail website.

I haven't seen enough interviews before the engagement and after the engagement to be able to comment on his being less animated before!

I feel sorry for SH though. Reading all this, she's beautiful and successful in her own right and even if she's not a millionaire she could afford to raise a baby on her own. I think the media now portray her as having got lucky. That would seriously fuck me off if I were her. No way would I collude with a marriage built on sand just to shore up his reputation as a Gentleman! but that's me.

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 26/01/2015 14:28

Thanks. FWIW, I don't live in the UK, and here in Germany he's not that well-known to be regular fodder for the daily tabloids (and even if he were, I never read that crap anyway).

TBH, they would only get my sympathy if birth control had failed. These days no one in their position can be forced into marriage. I guess I could understand if he felt it was the chivalrous thing to do, but as someone who has been married for 15 years and has two children, I know what married life is like, and it bears little resemblance to what you see on film. (There are no mice to do my washing up!) But no two marriages are identical, neither are children, so who knows, they might beat the odds - I would hope for that. (I'm also one of those odd ducks who generally expresses regret when I hear that anyone's marriage is failing - because no one goes into that hoping to fail.)

OP posts:
krolletRodtHar · 26/01/2015 14:44

Me neither, so I've seen sherlock but I've never seen him interviewed on TV. It's the same here, with his level of 'fame', I told one male friend that he looked a bit like benedict cumberbatch and he just said who!?

Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory seemed a more surprising couple to me. But that is based on having an impression of him, and her, nothing more!

SciFiFan · 26/01/2015 20:24

I'm not so sure that SH is either well off financially or that successful so whilst she might not be a gold digger she has most definitely landed on her feet with Benedict. She's set for life financially if she is the mother of his child.
