Hello everyone! Happy New Year for midnight - I wish you all a year of blessings.

I have finally logged in so that I can write on this thread.

I had always expected that if and when Benedict got engaged he'd look really estatically happy. I really, really hope he and Sophie are happy. However I think he has looked so miserable since he anounced his engagement. I am aware that there are various theories on his engagement and I am not going to get into that but do others also think that the photos of them on the red carpet show little chemistry?

I really want happy, daft Benedict back - have we lost that side of him?

colin I think we all expected that he would look happy and yet he looks anything but.

I don't know if it's because it's thought they haven't been together long or some other reason who knows, but perhaps this is real him or he has to be serious because of his film.

She looks like she was picked for him out if the perfect wife box and yet...

Anyway, here's to hamlet this year, I hope everybody had a good one and some lovely pics to come this year, although I could do without any bridal ones...

I see very little chemistry between himself and Sophie but who knows. Hoping for a return of happy silly dorky Batch soon

Yes, Frankel -- great minds think alike.

I've been thinking a lot about what people have been saying on here, that he has looked miserable ever since announcing his engagement, and for the most part, I would agree. (Although I do think he looked wonderful in that tongue-twister video with Sienna Miller - although I personally don't care for her, but I digress). I would also agree that I don't see a lot of chemistry between the two of them -- at least not in public, but isn't reservedness a typical British trait? And here's a theory I haven't read yet: Could it be that his looking beaten down might have a really sad reason behind it? I mean, many fans were taken aback by the "suddenness" of the engagement - what if she had fallen pregnant, and he proposed (because that's what gentlemen do), but she then miscarried? I only say this because I looked like death warmed over when I miscarried. And I seriously doubt that would be a detail they would share with the press.

Anyway, my family and I visited some friends between Christmas and New Year's, and we were treated to the film "The Angels' Share". Roger Allam is in it and plays a whiskey connoisseur. I kept smiling to myself, wondering if he was going to try and steal some Talisker. Oh, I miss Cabin Pressure already.

With that said, I wish everyone a very happy new year!

You know GreenCard that thought had occurred to me. You can never truly know what is going on in someone's life, and judging them on how happy they appear to be in public is pointless. I like to think I kept up a happy facade while we were TTC DD when in fact inside I was in pieces.

Greencard - yes you are right he could have been sad for some reason. I don't think the lack of chemistry in public is a British reserve thing though. There are a number of photos of him with Olivia Poulet and Anna Jones and he looks happy and close and you can see the chemistry.

In the photos of him and SH they have a gap between them and his body language is strange. I know plenty of British folk - me included - who are very unreserved btw. Anyway I do hope nothing sad has happened and that they are happy. I suspect all this campaigning in very exhausting and we just all want his dorkiness back I think.

I heard him being interviewed recently on a podcast - Nerd something - and he was cracking jokes and sounded very much like his old self. It was very nice to listen to.

I listened to the nerdist podcast too. He's lovely in that.

He was out and about last night and gf too. Apart from the ugliest dress, what do you think of the bump? Might make sense

Gosh he's so lovely. I'm on the fence about the pregnancy rumours as that awful dress would make anyone look preggers.
I shall be watching the next red carpet event with great interest. . .

I have to say she looks pregnant in that dress but as Sudename said everyone would look preggers in that dress. I also have to say I am not sure they even like each other! Time will tell I guess

Agree it's a god awful dress even if she does have great legs. am on the fence about the pregnancy although it would explain (in part) the rush to get engaged.

He's back to looking gorgeous though...sigh.
