I was dismayed to hear Ed Balls announce that any potential Labour government would stick to the 1% cap on increases to Child Benefit. It seems to me that Child Benefit plays a really important part in many family finances but I can't find very much data on this. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to explain the degree to which Child Benefit payments feature in their week-to-week financial budgeting. How do children gain from it or lose if it is not there?
This is very personal stuff so I understand if noone feels able to respond but I also think we need to present real stories from real people on why Child Benefit is important for a range of different reasons. And remember discussions you have on here affect public opinion :) Mumsnetters are a force to be reckoned with.
