Hi Mums

OK... I am that animator and I am here on an advisory capacity just to at least make all of you parents aware to what your children are actually watching each day. Some subtle some not, I really just want you guys to be educated in this.

The spelling on this is truly terrifying.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 04/08/2014 08:40

To be honest I prefer this to the right wing Christian stuff that tends to be homophobic and misogynistic.

elfycat · 04/08/2014 08:42

Well that was ... interesting.

Luckily I am capable of independent thought. So I take your hysterical (in both senses) approach to this and find your argument lacking.

examples (but not limited to these. I could probably write a masters dissertation on that YouTube clip and your posts):

Even if there are ''ohh scary freemason'' stuff in Disney, who cares? It's just Easter Eggs not subliminal stuff designed to take over the world.

Mr Tummnus is a fawn, as is Pan. Neither of the charactes were created by anyone at Disney. They are shown correct for type.

Mothers killed off... yeah so was Mustafa in Lion king, the father not the mother. Aurora had both her parents at the end. Let's not forget that maternal mortality had been quite grim not that long before Disney's era so motherless families would have been common. As it would have been while all the tales Disney adapted were written - a flipping long time ago.

There are pyramid and eye symbols in scenes meant to show Egyptian style architecture. Wow! Really!!!

Ergh. OP. I won't say it was 10 minutes wasted because I learned a lot. Only not what you thought I should learn Grin

VanGogh · 04/08/2014 08:43

OH NO!!! I watched the video.

Now my grammar is been influenced.

I think you could find those 'signs' in anything if you looked hard enough.

Disney films are, on the whole, the sort of thing, I really rather my child wouldn't watch, though. Fortunately, never interested. Same with people like Jay Z (who on earth is that?) and Beyonce.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 04/08/2014 08:53

My children rarely watched Disney films growing up. They have probably seen 5 or 6 of them, but wouldn't notice or care about the details. They do notice and care about how people are treated, how Disney films constantly ridicule and demonise characters for being poor, awkward, emotionally immature or just tired and frustrated and letting off steam. Because you can't allow real abuse to be shown in a disney annimation so instead we are led to believe that losing one's temper or having selfish thoughts is evil.

Also the portrayal of female role models is abysmal. It is improving a little, but there are still some pretty poor role models.

Anyway, there is much better storytelling available, and far better quality of annimation, imo and I've tried to show my children a good range. They prefer Marvel these days.

WeAreEternal · 04/08/2014 08:55

I switched off as soon as it said "that is a fact, proven from Wikipedia"

Hmm

What nonsense.

DownByTheRiverside · 04/08/2014 09:04

What an entertaining thread. My children are in hysterics as I speak, after I shared your Dire Warnings with them.
Perhaps Bible Belt traumas don't transfer well to MN?

Clarabum · 04/08/2014 09:05

I'm still reeling that a tower is phallic. WOW.

The letters in the Lion King do not spell out 'SEX', they spell out 'SFX' as in 'special effects'. This rumour was debunked 20 years ago when the film came out. There's an entire section devoted to ridiculous Disney rumours at Snopes. Why not have a look? They've done way more research than you have.

Thanks for your thread though, my children now know the meaning of the word 'paranoid' (they already knew what 'weirdo' meant).

ClashCityRocker · 04/08/2014 09:16

Yeah, but if I was a big movie producer I'd be sticking in-jokes and subliminal messages all over the shop.

Meglet · 04/08/2014 09:20

Posts starting 'Hi mums' are always good for a laugh.

ThistleDoMeNicely · 04/08/2014 09:36

Ahahahaha thanks OP you've just made my day Grin

Picturesinthefirelight · 04/08/2014 09:49

As a confirmed atheist dd would find this thread hilarious.

One of her favourite musicals is Wicked (does that make her a satanist)

So what if there are satanic symbols in the films anyway. It's all mumbo jumbo.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/08/2014 09:54

Are all penis-shaped things satanic? Confused

I love the Nazi on the balcony Grin. It's a shapeless figure in a uniform. It could be Wee Jimmy Krankie.

Picturesinthefirelight · 04/08/2014 09:59

I'm sorry but anyone who can see paedophilia references between Lucy & Mr Tumnus is clearly sick in the head

saintlyjimjams · 04/08/2014 10:12

Snort at wee jimmy krankie

I had to look a long time to see the penis shaped tower

As someone who is pagan/Christian I also find this thread hilarious.

I make the DDs out down their pendulums before going to church to give you a sense of what I mean

ICanHearYou · 04/08/2014 10:31

big thumbs up to the Orbital quote

zipzap · 04/08/2014 10:49

The 'I am here on an advisory capacity' bit also made me laugh before I got to any of the other stuff that made me carry on laughing.

Being kind and assuming that the grammatical mistake was due to a typo rather than being made through ignorance, claiming you are here in an 'advisory capacity' is pretty laughable and a cheap way to try to give credence to your ridiculous claims.

It's a no brainer that MNHQ haven't asked you to post to advise us. I have no idea on whose authority you could be claiming to legitimately be someone in an 'advisory capacity'. I'm guessing that you did it off your own back and were hoping to get lots of simpering thanks and praise that you could then use going forward. Hey ho, I doubt that you're going to listen to the reason and evidence presented on this thread and modify your views to those of a reasonable person.

zipzap · 04/08/2014 11:00

Oh and having said all that - has anybody else noticed the new CIf express floor cleaning adverts where the woman turns into a faux Disney princess to mop the floors before her prince/bloke come home - there's a double curtain which opens I think to let the prince in but I was too busy wondering why the princess needed to mop at all - would much prefer my prince to do the mopping! and the space left to be the opening is an incredibly obvious phallic shape.

However, I suspect that it was put in there deliberately in the hope that people would notice and talk about it and pictures of it would go viral to get them exposure. Dark arts in the manipulation of those viewing adverts maybe but hardly anything satanic!

HavantGuard · 04/08/2014 11:01

You can find some satanic imagery in animated films...
