How do I defriend someone?

Someone not spoken to for years has just shared something that I find really offensive.

Want it off of my FB but no idea how to do it. Will people I am friends with be able to see it?

Do people not engage brains before pressing buttons?

Click on her name to go to her profile page. At the top it will say Friends, click on it and a drop down menu should appear. You'll have the option to unfriend, or hide from newsfeed.
If you hide from newsfeed, she won't know.
She will know you unfriended as you'll no longer be in her friends list or appear on her newsfeed
