Neighbour smokes in communial area...

I was sitting in my living room with my little boy and I start to smell cigeratte smoke! No one is a smoker in my flat! I discover that it is the neighbour that lives downstairs has come upstairs to smoke out the communial window! Which is directly next to my little boys window. So now my sons curtains and whole room stinks of fags! So annoyed. He was still there so I slammed the window shut as hard as I could. Hopefully he got the message. Problem is, he's not English! So I can't even ask him not to. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to smoke in communial areas. He obviously doesn't want his flat to smell smokey which is why he has come upstairs. It's the same distance for him to go down one more flight of stairs and smoke outside! Just wanted to vent really! What would you do? Shall I inform the council?

Speak with your housing officer, they can either have a word or send a reminder to the whole block.Smile

I spoke to our factor about this and they sent a letter out to the whole block. I am also thinking of putting some no smoking signs up in the communal area.

I know how you are feeling. The people from the top floor were coming down and smoking in the communal area next to my flat. It was also creating a lot of noise.

Maybe just have a word? He may speak perfectly good English
