When to schedule birthday party during school holidays?

My DD absolutely can't wait to turn five. She's the youngest in her Reception class and all her friends have turned five already. But her birthday is on Wednesday, 20 August, when many of her friends will probably be on holidays. Is it better to schedule her birthday party for her actual birthday (Wednesday) or the following weekend? If I do Wednesday, some of her friends' parents may be working, but if I do the weekend, some of her friends' families may have other plans and may be more likely to be on holiday (because more holidays will tend to both start and end on weekends).

What sort of party are you planning? If it's small numbers I would speak to the parents and find out which date would work for the most people.

If your DD has a beat friend that she really wants there, plan it around her.

Id it's a whole class thing, your best bet is to wait until September, if she can wait that long. If not I'd go for the weekend before/after.

My DD turns 5 a week before yours. I've gone for a Sunday pm with the thought that we will get some people who can't make it. Always tricky in the summer and even more so now that school holidays are an issue. Either people are on holiday, or by that time they'll be grateful for something to do! I'll see what happens and maybe go for an early September date next year (if she can wait that long!), though we have had quite a few yeses so far. We thought about a weekday but don't know how many parents work.

Good luck and happy birthday to your DD.

We have an Dd with an August birthday, and have her party either before school breaks up in July, or after they go back in September. You do tend to get birthday cards that are a year older than she is though if you go for September!!
