Books for Autistic Children

I'm doing my dissertation on the lack of books for Autistic/Children with Mental/learning difficulties. During my current research, i found that the books available for children about disabilities featured more physical ailments as opposed to learning or mental issues. I was wondering if the mums of some of these children, or even some teachers, can tell me the issues their child faces with the lack of these books, or even if you know of any books which do cater to these children

So non-fiction about asd rather than fiction with characters who have asd?

Any books which are catered towards autistic children, in the similar ways we have books catered towards certain genders or races. Books which enhance understanding or give them a sense of identity

The NAS will have book lists on various topics such as going to the dentist etc. I guess it depends on the level of autism the person has. Severely autistic children may not be able to grasp that a book is about 'them' but those higher on the spectrum may be more able to identify.
