Just got round to watching the TIG trailer. It looks fantastic and obvs BC is in it, but others i like too.

There was a question today about a straight actor playing one who is gay.

From a journalistic point,it was the only interesting question that got an interesting response.

It made me think that there are very few actors around ben's age that are openly out.why aren't there more?

it maybe doesn't do their careers much good, because it puts off the legions of slavering women?

I was thinking about this the other day because I'd watched Ben Whishaw in Lilting, in which his character is gay. It seems to me he came out and then promptly got cast as 'gay' in this, whereas before he'd played straight or his characters' sexuality not relevant (apart from I suppose Richard II, in which there was some ambiguity).

It felt to me a bit like he was now being typecast and doomed to play only gay people from now on. Maybe other actors are worried about the same thing?

That question was shockingly bad, I can't believe the BBC would stoop so slow. Would they like to say that gay actors can't play straight parts, in which case Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto, amongst others, will be out of work pretty quick.

It got a response that was needed rather than asking the same questions again and again.
But why not use a gay actor? That's because there are very few about but best man for the job and all that
