What days to work?

I'm soon to return to work post baby. I need to request what days I would like to work. (I will be going back 3 days a week)

I would be interested to hear anything I should possibly take into consideration eg the implication of bank holidays if I work Mondays etc

Does anyone work mon/wed/fri? The have a break between each day?

My DH has random days off (2/3 consecutive days off a week)

TIA

I've been told not to take Friday as a home day, as work will spill over into it. If you take Monday off, bank hols usually carry over as time off in lieu for you to take as you like (check with your HR) - this can be a handy stash of flexible days with small kids.

I think it depends on the pattern of work for you and what will help you be most productive. I would probably do Weds - Fri and be in the work mindset for three days, then have a five day weekend Grin.

Id do Tues and Wed, then Fri. Day off in between for a rest, and Fridays tend to end a little earlier, be a little lighter on duties.

Thursday - chores day & food shopping leaving sat - tues relaxing.

I would suggest tues weds thurs as you cover the most of the week.

However offices usually are best set up to need employees on Mondays and not Fridays.

I would avoid breaking days too much unless necessary as it is hard for the child settling.

At nursery/childcare as they forget I should add

The bank holiday thing is a red herring. You won't get more time off if you don't work on a Monday. If you work three days a week you will get paid for 3/5 of the bank holidays whichever days you actually work.

Oh yes, didn't think about settling child into nursery with broken days etc!

I'm now thinking.... If I work Mondays will other people be more moany than if I work Fridays when people have the Friday feeling??? Its quite a depressive place where I work! Confused

Tue/wed/thurs would be my number 1 choice I think but I think that's quite popular with the part timers so not sure they would allow it

I work mon/wed/fri and I lie the days I between to look after dd2 and catch up on household tasks etc. I found mid week days harder to get nursery places as I guess people like a long weekend. Fridays seems quieter at nurseries around here.
