Facebook for kids dilemma, what to do......?

mmm, problem not sure how to deal with, I (unknowingly to him) get my 12 year old son's Facebook instant chat messages come up on my mobile when he's chatting. I always knew the day would come when things would get a bit close to or over the edge, but of course as soon as I talk to him about it, he'll know I get the messages and change his settings so I can't see them anymore. (He's got aspergers, doesn't live with me so banning him from it would be very difficult)
I'm pleased I can monitor it as it stands, and would want to know if he was engaging in chats that were damaging or threatening to him.
So he gets a gay porn picture from his friend of 2 butch men engaging in sex, and I'm thinking what to do? I'm sure it's not unusual to have this between kids sadly these days, but I'm concerned, do I step in now or monitor it and wait off it to get worse (that I hope it does not obviously)
And if I step in, how?

of course you should step in! he is 12! he shouldn't even have a facebook account.

you need to speak with whoever it is he lives with

I agree with cakey

Can you speak to whoever he lives with, (ex partner?), and get them on board? I'd be pretty horrified at him seeing stuff like that at 12, to be honest, but I do understand the situation you are in does tie your hands somewhat.
