Teenage son stinks of fags.

15 year old DS came home tonight absolutely reeking of fags.

Of course, he denied it. Said it was his mates. But the front of his longish hair stank and nothing else.

I am not a fool. I would love to believe him, but I just don't. Generally he is well behaved. Bit lazy around the house and with his homework. But on the whole, a pretty good kid.

Should I lock him up now and throw away the key?

Oh and when I say stinking, I mean utterly stinking.

I would give him no money again until I was convinced no smoking. His mates will get pissed off with him cadging. If he wants fags then he will have to behave like an adult and get a job to pay for them.

I would assume that he had been smoking and would remove all form of income immediately - and all future birthday/Christmas presents would take the form of gifts and not money. If he wanted to buy them then he would br on his own - he wouldn't be getting a penny from me. Foul, stinking, disgusting, unhealthy habit - hate it.

Get him to talk to an ex-smoker? Take him to docs and pick up all the Quit info?

Do all his friends smoke? If he's trying to fit in, then talk to him about the options he has. Is it because of a girl he likes that smokes?

He has a paper round that he does everyday, so earns £25 per week doing that. I stopped his pocket money when he started, so that income deprivation isn't possible.

I ended up going mental at him and crying - I stopped smoking aged 29 as it was making me so incredibly ill and he knew that.

I think some of his friends smoke and others hate it. He admitted it in the end and said it was the first time and he had 4 cigarettes, and also said he wasn't inhaling.

I do believe he hasn't done it again this week after reading his messages on Facebook, without his knowledge.

Ugh! Stupid stupid stupid boy!

If he's earning his own money not much you can do. It might be worth pointing out that 25 quid doesn't buy many fags these days and if he is now paying or everyhing else himself....
