Colic/reflux help!!!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is going through the same ordeal and can share any ideas or give any advice on how to cope!!!
My baby has had colic/reflux since week 1, he will literally cry every night from 3pm until midnight, I have tried infacol and gripe water which both had no effect whatsoever, was put on dom peridome and ranitidine incase it was reflux but neither had any effect, tried colief but that has made no difference and gaviscon infant just made him hugely constipated which just gave him even more wind, he is 7 weeks now and continues to cry without fail every night from around 3pm till midnight sometimes even till 2am, is anyone going through the same or been through the same as I have gone past the point of losing my sanity!!!

Hi - I don't think I have any advice but I wanted to let you know that it will end one day. My DS had this and we tried everything too, hoping that the next thing would work and that soul destroying feeling when you realise it doesn't.

You have my sympathy! It is truly awful but you will come out the other side.

Others will be along with things that helped them. The only thing that eased (but didn't cure) it was colief and in the end it cleared up after a couple of sessions of cranial osteopathy (he had a traumatic birth leaving his head a bit squished) - but he could have just grown out of it at that point anyway.

Hi - When you pick him up does he stop if you hold him vertical, but cry when horizontal? Molly did this - it was reflux induced asthma. Once on asmtha meds (at the tender age of 6 months) it reduced.

The only way to get her to sleep was upright in a pram with my husband walking the streets at 3 am so I could sleep. When we got reflux under control, plus allergies it got sorted. But it was a long haul as she was allergic to things I was eating, and therefore I was passing onto her with my breastmilk. Also what I was eating affected the acidity of the milk and that gave her reflux too. My diet had to change, before she was well.

Do allergies run in the family?

Sounds like my dts. I had to cut out dairy too. Both dairy intolerant, one also egg and soya intolerant.

The worst one needed to be on the reflux meds with me on dairy free/soya free diet. I learnt to love almond milk . Months before diagnosed though, we had months of the screaming. It's hell, I've never been so sad and so drained. Sympathy.

Molly vomitted every day...didn't sleep through the night til she was 7. It can be a long haul as she had delayed reactions.

Hi - I have four children, all have had reflux. How are you feeding your baby? There is a very high chance that there is some immaturity caused gut allergy going on, most commonly to dairy/cows milk protein. I wrote a leaflet used by several hospitals on tips for dealing with reflux, and there is also other info on gut allergies on my Recipe Blog.

Non IgE responses are very common under two, sometimes part of the "allergic march" and sometimes never develop into IgE responses. Dairy and soya re the biggest culprits. Most outgrow these non IgE responses by age 2 or 7-8 yrs, unfortunately not in our case but we are EGID. Lots of info on my Blog anyway, incl the 2011 NICE guidelines on food allergy in babies and children, which explains to primary care health practitioners (GPS, HVs etc) about non IgE "gut allergies" (NOT intolerances) but most haven't read it.

and btw asthma is not dx'd before age 5, but reflux causes micro aspiration and sometimes apnoeas in many, the former causing irritation which can present as "asthma" (we had this) and the latter other problems. x

They do actually diagnose asthma from age 3, and i have two friends- also both with twins- who now have an asthma diagnosis- inc home nebuliser machine, open access to Children's Ward, asthma specialist nurse and consultant for one, not so sure where the other is up to. First child is still 1y.o, second is 2. Anyway, clearly it depends on symptom severity.
