windy breastfeeding baby

I have a five week old baby who is breastfed, I am having a problem with wind. I have been told that breastfed babies do not suffer from wind but mine definitely does. So I am seeking advice on how to help my baby, he screams and has real difficulty moving it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Who told you bf babies don't get wind terri? Sound a bit odd.

My DS really suffered and it turned out that he had upper lip tie and tongue tie. Have a read of the article and see if any of it sounds familiar.

Is there a Bfing Support Group you can get to and have you accessed the support on one of the Bfing Helplines?

Your mw sounds like she is talking out of her arse she needs her bfing training updating.

Who was the Bfing Expert terri? Caws she a Lactation Consultant specialising in tt?

I'd recommend asking MNHQ to move this thread to the breast and bottle section, you might get a few more poster

I have the same problem with my little boy who is 4 weeks.
I have found that infacol really helps. You have to give it a request days to work, but I certainly found its reduced the amount of trapped wind.

If your really worried tho talk to your doctor.

My 11 wk old ds is bf and has awful top amd bottom wind due to upper lip tie and undiagnosed posterior tongue tie. I was told the same that it doesnt affect bf but thats bullshit he lost 13.2% of his birth weight and took 4 weeks to regain it. I can hear the air clicking as he feeds (happens with bottles of bm as well). I was told they would cut his lip tie when he develops a speech impediment ffs seems to me its all about saving money. Strange they dont consider the long term costs such as speech therapy, braces not to mention the psychological effects due to peers making fun when he develops a gap in his teeth and cant speak normally...really pisses me off grrr

Feeding in rugby ball position, sitting lo up for 20mins after feeding and rubbing rather than patting to wind are what I do.
